Manchester City will endeavour to keep themselves in contention for top spot in Group D when they play host Viktoria Plzen.
Manuel Pellegrini's side have already booked their place in the last 16 - with the knockout stage beckoning after two seasons of group stage frustration.
Progress to the latter stages of Europe's premier club competition was a top priority for the Blues this term, and to achieve that with two games to spare should mean that they move forward fresher than a number of their rivals.
There is, however, still the issue of who finishes first and second in the group to be addressed, with a potentially easier tie in the next round awaiting the victor of that particular tussle.
Defending champions Bayern Munich lead the way at present, but City are just three points off the pace and will travel to the Allianz Arena on Matchday Six.
Victory over whipping boys Plzen - who remain pointless - would keep them in the hunt, but the Czech visitors to the Etihad Stadium will be in no mood to roll over.
They held City for 48 minutes in the opening round of fixtures, before succumbing to a 3-0 defeat, and know a positive result on English soil on Wednesday would keep alive their hopes of snatching the consolation prize of a place in the Europa League away from CSKA Moscow - ahead of a crunch clash between the pair on 10th December.
Man City
Joe Hart has been told he will return in goal for Manchester City after five games on the bench.
Costel Pantilimon has been favoured of late - his first prolonged run in the side since joining the club in 2011 - and has kept four clean sheets. Previously the Romanian had only appeared in isolated domestic cup ties.
Captain and defender Vincent Kompany is back in training with the squad but not yet ready to return from a thigh injury.
Striker Stevan Jovetic and playmaker David Silva (both calf) also remain on the sidelines and Jack Rodwell has also suffered another injury setback.
Viktoria Plzen
Plzen will be pinning their hopes on top marksman Stanislav Tecl.
The 23-year-old striker has netted eight times in 11 outings this season and will pose the greatest threat to City's back four.
Wednesday's game will see Pavel Vrba taking in his penultimate Champions League fixture, with the Plzen coach having agreed to take the Czech Republic job.
He will guide them through Euro 2016 qualification after triggering a release clause in his contract.
