Here are instructions on how to use VLC 2.1 to Play, Record and Stream (save) your stream to a file.

For all of the ways to use VLC with Stream Torrent streams you must first get the stream playing with Stream Torrent.
Once the stream is playing do the following.
1. Go to the Stream Torrent application window and highlight the stream name you have playing by clicking on it and then lock the stream: Click on the locked padlock icon in the tool bar or right click the stream name and click “Lock”.
2. In the stream player window, right-click on the video, click on “Properties”
3. Highlight and copy the text in the “Location” field. It will look like this – “http://127.0.0.1:15900/2.asf” The last number before the “.asf” will be different depending on the stream.

To Play the stream in VLC
1. Open VLC
2. Hit ‘Ctrl+V’. A window will pop up with the .asf link that you copied in the URL field.
3. Hit “Play” and enjoy! (It may take a few seconds for the stream to start playing.)
4. Close the Stream Torrent player window but DO NOT close the Stream Torrent application window.
5. When you’re done watching the game unlock the stream in Stream Torrent and stop it.

To Record the stream you are playing with VLC
1. In the VLC player, click “View” on the menu bar. If there is not a check mark next to “Advanced Controls”, click on this item. A short control bar will appear at the lower left of the VLC player. above the standard control bar
2. Press the “Record” button (the round icon at the left end of this toolbar).
3. The stream will be recorded. On my system the file is located in ‘My Documents > My Videos’ The file will look like this “vlc-record-2014-11-17-20h57m50s-http___127.0.0.1_15900_2.as-.asf”.
4. When done recording unlock the stream in the Stream Torrent application window and then stop it.

To Save the stream to a file.
1. Open VLC
2. Click on “Media” in the menu bar and click on “Open Network Stream. (Shortcut key is ‘Ctrl+N’). A pop-up window will appear.
3. In the “Network Protocol” box, in the field under “Please enter a network URL” paste the .asf link you copied from the ST player properties.
4. Click on the down arrow next to “Play” in the lower right of the window and click on “Stream” (shortcut is Alt+S). The window will now have “Stream Output” in the title bar.
5. Click “Next”. This will be the “Destination Setup”. (If you want to watch the stream while it is “streaming” to the file, check “Display Locally”.)
6. Click on the “Add” button next to the box with “File” in it.
7. In the box next to “File” enter the destination path of the file or click on “Browse” to browse your system for a location to save the stream. I have a folder set up in My Documents for streams.
8. Once you have your destination in the “Filename” box, click on “Next”.
9. This will be “Transcoding Options”
10. Uncheck “Activate Transcoding”
11. Click on the down arrow next to the “Profile” box and select “Video – WMV + WMA (ASF)” (All streams I have watched use WMA for the audio codec and WMV or VC – 1 for the video codec. See “Tips” below to create a custom profile to use the original codecs from the stream).
12. Click “Next” and then “Stream”. Your game will be streamed and saved to your destination file.
13. When done with the game, remember to unlock and stop the stream in Stream Torrent.

Enjoy using VLC to watch your games; I think it is a better picture than the Stream Torrent player.

Tips
1. I use “Stream” instead of “Record” so the stream is not displayed in VLC. This is helpful to avoid spoilers. I will start a saving a stream just before game time and then start watching it a little later so I can fast forward through the commercials. If you do this it is best to start a second stream in a new VLC window while the first VLC stream is still going. I name the first file with the team names and Part 1.i.e. “Patriots – Broncos Part 1.asf, the second stream Part 2 etc. Once you get the second VLC window streaming the game, close the first VLC stream and start watching. When you reach the end of the first part, get a new VLC stream going for Part 3 and so on.
2. Keyboard shortcuts for VLC when watching your saved file.
• “F” to enter and exit full screen
• “M” to mute and unmute the audio
• Mouse wheel up and down to control volume
• Ctrl+Alt+Rt. Arrow – very big time jump forward
• Ctrl+Alt+Lft. Arrow – Very big time jump back
• Ctrl+Rt. Arrow – Long time jump forward
• Ctrl+Lft. Arrow – Long time jump back
• Alt+R. Arrow – Small time jump forward
• Alt+Lft. Arrow – Small time jump back
• Shift+Rt. Arrow – Very small time jump forward
• Shift+Lft. Arrow – Very small time jump back

The Ctrl+Rt. Arrow jump will usually take you a little more than halfway through a standard commercial break. A couple of Alt+Rt. Arrow jumps will bring you to the end of the commercial break. Be aware that sometimes the back and forward jump keys do unexpected things. I’ve had the Ctrl+Rt. Arrow work fine but the Alt+Rt. Arrow actually go backwards in the saved stream. Just lettin’ ya know!
2. I’ve created a custom profile in VLC for the “Transcoding Options” section that uses the original codecs when saving the stream to a file. To create this profile do this:
• When you are in the “Transcoding Options” section there are three icons to the right of the “Profile” box. Click on the far right icon (“Create a new profile”)
• In the box next to “Profile Name” enter the name of your new profile.
• In the “Encapsulation” tab, click on the circle next to “ASF/WMV”
• Click on the “Video Codec” tab and check the box next to “Video” and then “Keep original video track”.
• Click on the “Audio” tab and check “Audio” and then “Keep original audio track”.
• Click “Create”
• You can now use this profile to “Stream” your game to a file.
