Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be looking for a positive response to Saturday's 4-1 Premier League defeat by Manchester City when Spurs host Asteras Tripolis in the Europa League on Thursday.

Pochettino's side are looking for a first win in Group C, having drawn their previous two games.
Greek side Asteras top the standings with four points, and Pochettino said: "We expect a tough game.

"They are a very dynamic team."

Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen came off the bench at the Etihad on Saturday after Federico Fazio was sent off, and could be in contention to start against Asteras.

Vertonghen has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane recently, but Pochettino says the Belgium international is a big part of his plans.

"Jan is an important player for Tottenham," added Pochettino.

"He is happy at Tottenham. Maybe sometimes he wants to play more but I have to take a decision. He is happy and I'm happy with him.

"I know players are sometimes affected by comment or rumours and they call me about the rumours but Jan is a very important player for Tottenham and for me."

Nabil Bentaleb is out of the game after the Algeria midfielder picked up an ankle injury while on international duty which also ruled him out of the trip to Manchester City at the weekend.

Right-back Kyle Walker remains absent after abdominal surgery, while fellow full-back Kyle Naughton will miss the game with an ankle injury.
