MATCH PREVIEW
Having guided Stoke to their first Premier League top-10 finish, Mark Hughes will now be feeling an overwhelming sense of frustration that their early-season travails can best be described as indifferent.
They are summed up by the high of winning at the Etihad stadium and the low of losing two of their first three home games.
New recruits included Mame Biram Diouf, Bojan Krkic and Victor Moses, with the clear intent of adding greater creativity to the Potters' renowned steel, yet a return of less than a goal a game will only have added to the sense of lack of fulfilment.
Like their weekend visitors, there seems little doubt that a top-half finish is their likely fate, but even in these early weeks, a fluent display in front of their own fans is now overdue.
Swansea arrive with their faultless August an ever-distant memory. Nine points from their opening three games has been followed by just two more from the subsequent four, as they too have struggled to maintain any level of consistency.
Two sendings off in their last three outings have certainly hampered that quest and, having scored only one goal and earned just one point from their three previous Premier League visits to the Britannia, maintaining a full complement of players is surely a minimum requirement.
Trying to halt Peter Crouch will be pivotal as the former England striker scored in all three of those encounters and will be keen to impress once again, having this week stated his desire to commit his future to Stoke beyond the remaining year of his current contract.
That the game is on a Sunday doesn't bode well for either side. Stoke have lost their last four home games played on it, while Swansea have won just one of the last 12 matches they've played at the end of the weekend. All things considered, perhaps a draw seems the likeliest outcome!
