Match preview:

Barring a screw-up of epic proportions, Tottenham should have more than enough in their locker to see off the challenge of Cypriot minnows AEL Limassol in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Spurs walked away from the first leg with a 2-1 victory secured by late strikes from Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane, and while Mauricio Pochettino will surely be drilling into his players the need to put on a professional show in the home leg, Spurs are undoubtedly in the box seat to advance in the competition.

Coming into the game on the back of a 4-0 battering of QPR at White Hart Lane last weekend in the Premier League, Tottenham should be full of confidence against AEL.

Further buoyed by the signing of Federico Fazio on Wednesday, Spurs’ options look bountiful against Limassol.

Team news:

Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches could feature for the first time this season after recovering from a back injury, right-back Kyle Naughton returns following suspension, however Kyle Walker is ruled out with a hip problem.

Roberto Soldado is a concern with a neck strain that could see Emmanuel Adebayor return to the starting XI.

Mauricio Pochettino, the Tottenham Hotspur manager, is adamant that he wants to keep Andros Townsend with the winger poised to line up against AEL Limassol in their Europa League match on Thursday night .
Townsend was omitted from the squad for the game against Queens Park Rangers on Sunday and has been the subject of two bids from Southampton. But both have been rejected even with the south coast club offering as much as £12 million for the England international.
"He is in my plans. He's in the squad [for Limassol]," Pochettino said. "It is impossible to have only 11 players in the squad – you need 24 or 25. We have to play a lot of games and it is possible you play today, then don't play in the next Premier League game – but the most important thing is understanding that we need to choose for each game."

Pochettino has addeed to his centre-back options, following the sale of Michael Dawson to Hull, by completing the £8 million capture of Sevilla's Federico Fazio. "We need to have different options in this position," Pochettino said. "We have different players, all with different characteristics, and it's important to add some players and then you can choose the best options in every game."
Pochettino has announced that he will wait until the transfer window closes before naming Dawson's successor as captain with Hugo Lloris, the France captain, a prime candidate.

Possible line up:

Tottenham (probable, 4-2-3-1):
Lloris; Naughton, Chiriches, Dier, Davies; Bentaleb, Paulinho; Townsend, Holtby, Lennon; Kane.

AEL Limassol (probable, 4-2-3-1):
Fegrouch; Carlitos, Sielis, Cadu, Edmar; Nikolaou, Guidileye; Adrian Sardinero, Barcelos, Bebe; Gikiewicz.
