Tottenham have a mountain to climb as they prepare to face Benfica in the second leg of their last-16 Europa League tie in the Estadio da Luz tonight.

Tim Sherwood's side slipped to a 3-1 first leg defeat at White Hart Lane last week, meaning they will have to score at least three goals in Portugal to have any chance of progressing through to the quarter-finals.

In the first leg, Rodrigo netted the only goal of the first half and Luisao doubled the advantage on 58 minutes.

Although Christian Eriksen's superb 20-yard free-kick reduced the arrears six minutes later, Luisao lashed home a fierce close-range effort in the 84th minute to give Jorge Jesus' men a comfortable advantage.

As well as defeat on the pitch, Sherwood also had an uncomfortable time on the touchline, with the Benfica coach angering the Spurs boss with his antics.

Sherwood has promised his side will 'have a go' in Portugal, but the magnitude of their task is reflected by the fact their hosts are unbeaten in 25 games in all competitions - including winning their last 10.

The Portuguese side last tasted defeat to Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League in November and will be aiming to go one better than last season when they lost to Chelsea in the Europa League final.

Spurs are on a three-game losing run - with the Benfica loss sandwiched between London derby defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal which have derailed their push for a Champions League spot.
